Music Unit Reflection

Music unit is the most interesting unit I had learned during this semester. I studied various genres of music and their features in the last two weeks. For examples, my genre is the techno, a form of electronic dance music. There are so many different type of genre in music, such as heavy metal, pop, ballad, hip-hop, and soul. By doing this presentation, we had a chance to learn and to listen some of them, and we can find the right music to listen also is really improve the knowledge about music.

I also listened to some songs online by searching the music genres, and had saved some of the good website to listen. We had searched about the TOP 40 chart, and most of the songs it there, I know it all. NPR website is one of the surprises to me, they has so many interesting things on the web and a lot of good music, also wonderful stories. For me, the AHA moment is that when I searched about the web, and doing others work with music, I found out that the Africa American really influence music a lot around the world. No matter is rap music or hip-hop, they are just everywhere in music! I also learned about the history of MTV, how they started and the different between rap and hip-hop. Another thing I learned is how black was treated before even in the category of music.

The part I like the most is the Unit field trip, is definitely worth of the time. We went to the House of Blues for the field trip. This is also my first time of visit this wonderful place. I listen to a lot of songs form the early time though out today, and by the same time, I also learned about the history about how African American first starts making music. I will visit the House of Blues in the near future. In this unit, my bumper sticker is that “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.”

All Songs Considered

All Songs Considered is a weekly online multimedia program started in January 2000 by NPR's All Things Considered director Bob Boilen. At first, the show featured information and streaming audio about the songs used as bumper music on All Things Considered.

The program has turned into a source of discovery for new music of all genres. One is as likely to hear electronica from the Congo as to hear guitarist Les Paul. In August 2005, the program began podcasting for free.In 2005, it began webcasting and podcasting live concerts from Washington, D.C.'s 9:30 Club, including acts such as Animal Collective, The Decemberists, Neko Case and Tom Waits.

Host Bob Boilen and producer Robin Hilton write a blog where they introduce music from unsigned and unknown bands and solicit ideas for shows from listeners.
In 2007, All Songs Considered became the cornerstone program of NPR Music, the music discovery Web site from National Public Radio.

This is a really awsome website that fans can find all kinds of music information on it. The site will collect the recent live in concert, the weekly shows, the preview videos and the first listening. All the fans can post their own products through the site and show them to others. also they can share their music ideas on it. No matter what genres you belong to, you can find your favourite music here. The site offers Rock; Jazz; Classical; Hip-Hop/R&B; Folk; World and Electronic/Dance, all these options  must have the ones you like.

This is the home for the music, come here and enjoy the music!

My favorite Song

The Gift by Gregorian Forgive is a word I am learning If only to pass the time I love you for all your weakness I love you for all your lies Will you grow Will you understand The damage you caused in time The past is behind we are facing A punishment for the crime The gift you gave me Our sweet encounter Became so fragile and flew with the night I will be witness I will not falter Till we are risen again to the light Would you forgive me My heart was broken But I will mend I will be as before Just give me one chance To make it better Uhh let me be yours Without you I'm weak and I'm listless Without you I find I'm blind I watch you alone, are you dreaming Of happines left behind Do you drift in your heart at night Walk through the rooms of your mind Open the door I'll be waiting Remember this is your life

Unit 3 Reflection

Unit 3 Reflection

This unit, I learned a lot of new information about movie that I don’t know before. I love to watch movie, before learning this chapter, I had known about some aspects of movies. From learning this chapter, I noticed that there are various kinds of movie genre, for examples: sci-fi, comedy, horror, adventure, epic and action. I study art film as my genre; I think this is a very different type of movie genre. While I was searching, I find out that Art films are a type of movie that is very different from the popular Hollywood blockbuster movies.

Art films have many other names. Some people call them art movies, independent films, indie films, art house films, auteur films or experimental films. When I saw the picture that posted in first page of this chapter, I was interested in the Michael Jackson wearing the jackets in the middle standing handsome, but also with some scary ghosts, this is my AHA moment because I have this album.

I learned about movie industry by studying four representative movie companies; Hollywood, Paramount, Warner Bros and Tyler Perry Studios. I really like Tyler Perry’s website. While I am searching, I learned a lot about the movie companies’ influence and history. From class, I also learned and think that we need to focus on nonmainstream movies as well, such as Tyler Perry’s movie or other foreign movie, because the movie industry should handle with various movies of the world, and we also watched movies from the International Film Festival, and experience various movie genres. I studied African Americans’ movie industry by reading the ‘Tyler Perry’s Money Machine’. He is defining the African Americans’ daily life, for examples, family issues and Romanic, there are not so many about the racism or discrimination in his movies. I learned how he can make so much of money in the block buster.

In this unit, my bumper sticker is “Don’t judge a movie without watching it”. The reason why I made this bumper sticker is that I think people sometimes only care about which big super stars are in the movie or how much money they spend on making this film or who is the direct. I think we all should watch the film first, and start our judgment.
